INtuition/INtro/Muscle Memory INtuition Muscle Memory is the repetition of movements enough times to make them become INtuitive, making once complicated movements like carve gibing easy to learn in hours instead of years. Muscle Memory makes things happen automatically instead of through concentration. Guy introduced Muscle Memory as a useful way to teach back in 1993, during the PWA World Cup in Brighton where he entertained hundreds of keen windsurfers on no wind days with a kind of pantomime approach, getting the crowd to copy him through the body movements in a carve gybe for instance.
He also found that when he was learning new moves he'd visualise them, even finding himself bottom turning at the bottom of every staircase.
He developed Muscle Memory from there, combining great audience participation and enjoyment with visualisation, repeating once complicated moves enough times to make them become INtuitive and automatic when you're out windsurfing. He has developed INtuition Muscle Memory to be a most effective method of teaching many aspects of windsurfing, rather like teaching dancing where you'll learn more copying someone, than listening to a lecture. |
