INtuition's Bournemouth to Brighton Blast- 2008 dates
Posted On:  25/03/2008 1:06:48 PM

The world's longest-long-distance windsurfing event will take place around the longest day of the year in the end of June 2008.

Everyone is welcome for any stage of the 100 mile challenge to see how far you can windsurf.

In it's inaugural year in 2007 the INtuition Bournemouth to Brighton Blast leapt into legendary status as only three windsurfers completed the task sailing 107 miles to Brighton in winds gusting a ridiculous 55 knots. Many windsurfers made it from Bournemouth to the first stop at Christchurch and had some of the most radical full speed broad reaching experiences of their lives! But you can join us from where ever you like along the south coast, as we'll be stopping at Bournemouth, Christchurch, Calshot, Hayling Island, Pagham, Felpham and Hove (all TBC) before hopefully making it into Brighton before dark!

The event is a very simple format with no entry fees or registration. It will be run on the first windy day after June 24, if needs be even into July. You just keep an eye on any south or westerly winds forecasts and at www.guycribb.com where they'll be alerts to the event day.

Last year we ran the event in early May in one of the biggest storms of the year, which not just put most windsurfers off, but also flattened many of them onto various beaches along the south coast- hopefully this won't be the case closer to the summer this year!

The event format is put your phone in a waterproof bag, stay close to the shore and just windsurf as far as you can. When you're knackered come ashore and phone your friend who will be driving your car along the coast. There is no rescue or infrastructure to this freeriding event- it's just me going for it and anyone who wants to join me does so at their own risk, since even a 600 year old traditional pancake race was cancelled earlier this year due to health and safety!

There are a few danger areas along the south coast due to shipping and/or stronger winds- so windsurfing between Calshot and Hayling Island is especially dangerous and not recommended.

Watch this space for more news, and see my forthcoming features in Windsurf magazine about downwind technique.
