LOCATION REPORT
|
WIND Tarifa has a heavy reputation as the wind capital of Europe, infamous for it's nuclear Levante winds and 4m weather! This is often the case, as we discovered in 2003. However the average winds for June should be more manageable 5 - 6m weather.
WIND STATISTICS 2003 10/10 > 20 knots! (7/10 > 30 knots!) 2004 7/7 nuclear!
SEA STATE Small rolling swell and chop, or steep chop and small shore break on very windy days. Turquoise foreshore and deep blue sea. |
Easy launching with miles of sandy beaches.
|
|
SAILING AREA Eleven miles of wide sandy beach, Levante winds blow side to side-offshore from the left. Poniente side onshore from the right
WETSUITS Long legged / short arm summer suit when windy. Shorty in light winds.
RENTAL CENTRE Club Mistral, Valdequieros Mistral boards and North sails, 100% carbon masts. |

HOTEL
| Incredible self catering apartments converted from Moorish courtyard building by local artists and owners. Unique and exciting, each apartment has been styled by the artists, some with split levels and glass ceilings. With access to one of the highest rooftops within the old walled town, views over Tarifa to Africa and the sea are unbeatable. Situated in the heart of the old town, the surrounding bars, cafes and restaurants prove hard to avoid, yet a short stagger home was all it needed nightly.
Driving to go sailing every day is a cinch, and after enjoying the old town for dinner and drinks every night, staying within easy walking distance is an absolute must, rather than trying to drive out of town to any of the hotels.

MEALS
|
Breakfast - As we stay in self-catering appts, we all contribute to a 'kitty' which in theory we take turns to go and buy breakfast with and come back and cook it for the other guests. However in practise this usually means I go and get it all and cook it for everyone! There's cafes with Café con leche for a euro right under our apartments...
Lunch - Usually we eat on site with the vast array of delightful healthy Spanish and Italian foods from the Hurricane Hotel chef, but sometimes we'll pop down the beach for a burger and chips or across the road for a paella. |

Dinner - Having frequented Tarifa for about fifteen years, I know the best places to eat and drink in town, hence the nightlife and meals we have are not only the best quality and cultural experiences, but also often lead to unprintably crazy nights.
DRINKS & NIGHTLIFE Mojito capital of Europe, tinto de verano paradise, sherry's homeland and infamously good tequilas, the extreme nuclear wind of Tarifa is matched only by the liveliness of it's partying.
We had some heavy nights, but nothing ever gets in the way of a fresh start early in the morning with another force seven! Tarifa 2003 was the biggest party week in the history of INtuition as the town has become one of the most exciting places in Spain to hang out, with some of the coolest bars in Europe mixed with classic Andulician tapas bars.
